Reflection #4: Research Process
1. What have you learned about Information Literacy? How did the library tutorials inform your own research process and understanding?
2. Describe your own research process? What steps did you take toward constructing your final research paper?
3. How did you evaluate the quality of your sources and weigh their worth/merit?
4. What was difficult about writing a paper like this?
5. What research skills were you particularly strong in, and which will you continue to work on in the future?
6. How do social interactions: conferencing, tutoring, and peer reviews, etc. continue to inform your own writing process?
The library tutorials informed me on a lot about my own research. It taught me many ways I can find the right information. It also taught me how to find the information I found previously at another time. These were very helpful tutorials and I would really recommend them to anyone who doesn't feel comfortable looking for information. My research process was very helpful for my paper. I found five great sources off of EBSCOhost. I found academic journals that fit my subject and they helped me advocate for change. First, I found my sources that I was going to use. Then, I annotated them so I could just go through and use them as summaries. Then, I wrote my paper. It was a very smooth process. I then woke up and found my laptop would not turn on. I had to go to stables and they managed to save all of my work and get my laptop to turn back on. They were awesome. I missed the peer review but had two of my friends read through my paper.
I knew my sources were worth their merit because the facts they were stated were done through their own studies and evaluations. It was difficult to write a paper like this because I was very confused on when I really had to cite my source. I didn't know if I even mentioned one thing that my source had and put it in my own words but still their information, if I really had to cite it or not. I was very strong with the way that I can advocate for my issue and take a stand for the issue. I just needed to work on how I state my sources. Through my writing process I think that meeting with tutors and having peer reviews with a conference, helps get other opinions and help you realize how you can have a well written paper.
